After Snowfall

Deep laden clouds;
Have roll out their carpet,
Crisp and deep,
Gossamer flake,
Upon silent flake.
Azure bright sky,
Released in sunset glow –
Transforms:
So I stand  –
Entranced by skeletal trees,
Bowed low under snow weight.
Jewels glisten and dance over a world –
Remade:
While chill evening hour draws on.
Yet still I pause –
Breathless for fear:
The spell might break.
I ache for your gentle embrace –
To share:
This luminious beauty of an ice locked world.
I can not pass by this woodland glade –
Start again:
On my lone, homeward way.
As night with shimmered stars:
Draws in;
Still the jewels sparkle:
Entrapped –
I gaze.
Upon a world metamorphosed:
From deep dark woodland –
To refracted light.
I give thanks for sweet memory,
Yet in this shivered beauty stark –
Your absence adds another –
Different chill:
That I can not pass from.
The cold ache of emptiness –
That long expects your tread upon the step;
Transposed –
By memory of warm bright days.
