Gloaming Memory
Softly folds the gathered horizon clouds
Gentle with birdsong, the gloaming gathers
Peace in fragrant in warmth of day
Lights of harvesters sweep; retrace the Spring plough’s pattern
A rich bounty to gather in, ripe grain full headed.
Expectant all pauses; as day gather up before night.
Tenderly delicate are the mercies of earth’s bounty.
Lest we be forgetful, in the afterglow of richness
We remain small; insignificant to frame.
The intricacy of creation, beyond calculation.
We too quickly disperse; as the Autumnal gloaming.
To face the hard chill of winter sparseness,
Bounty but a whisper of memory,
When only stone cold remains.
