Counting Stars
Paused amazed in chill winter night,
I stand beneath the waning moon,
Half light reveals the velvet black curve,
Sweeping expanse of sky, holds sparkling stars,
Myriad, upon myriad points glitter,
Counting stars a joyous task,
In the sureness of myriads beyond sight,
Invisible to my vantage point,
The wonder of counting stars enthralls,
Reminder of infinitude of space,
Incomparable procession of eons,
Beyond comprehension, numbs mind’s calculation
The vastness of creation, viewed from this speck,
Perspective restored, so counting stars,
I will continue, transfixed by the bejewelled black,
A reminder of time’s swift passage,
So, I rejoice whilst counting stars,
Refracted in chill of winter’s night.
