October Moon
Bright orb, pinioned in indigo sky.
Cloud shroud, silvered by mist traces.
Rich, luminous hue, carmine moon;
Fog gently wraps the hollows,
Still air chills softly, hints at frost.
Glow, rhapsodic in resplendent broadness.
Casts wide beams – diminish starlight.
Balloon harvest moon, rims rooves, reflected in tarmac;
Limpid above oxidised street lights.
Who follows your traverse of inky sky?
No need of your light, the home journey to make.
Superfluace your significance in harvest home,
Beyond long days of labour now spent.
Drowned now in music.
No fruit to savour but drudgery, no silent space,
Out of times peacefulness awaits the quite of moonlight.
Gentle in burgundy array.
Longed for bounty, soaked in your harvest light.
All its sweetness, fulfilled in summer’s bounty
Awaits long nights of winters icy grip.
