Rain Song

What in the softness do I hear
The beating of a heart?
Gentle tap, tap, as I turn my head
Your tread upon the step?
In silence I await your greeting
Yet none, only rain song
Soft whisper echos down the years.
The bushes grown high
Still leaves stretch for the slate sky,
Drip, drip whispers fall
Remind of our joy in their planting.
I wait, a holding of breath
Then softly I will sing the rain song.
In hope of a rainbow promise
New joy of the far horizon.
Beyond rain song, bright new day.
